lhan Omar Wins Fifth Term in U.S. Congress

Minnesota(SONNA)-U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has won re-election to a fifth consecutive term representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, defeating Republican challenger John Nagel and extending her tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Following her victory, Omar thanked her supporters and described the result as a strong mandate from voters.
“Thank you, Minnesota! I’m incredibly honored to continue to represent you in the People’s House with a resounding mandate. We will not allow Trump to silence us,” Omar wrote on her Facebook page.
First elected to Congress in 2018, Omar made history as the first Somali American elected to the U.S. Congress and one of the first two Muslim women to serve in the House of Representatives. Born in Somalia, she came to the United States as a refugee before building a political career in Minnesota.
Her latest victory marks another milestone in her political career and reinforces her position as one of the most prominent Somali-American and Muslim voices in U.S. politics.
Omar will now return to Congress for a fifth term, continuing her advocacy on immigration, civil rights, healthcare and other national policy issues.
