New Speaker of Somali Parliament Takes Office

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Newly elected Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac), officially assumed office on Wednesday during a handover ceremony held at Villa Hargeisa in Mogadishu.
The ceremony was attended by First Deputy Speaker Sadia Yasin Haji Samatar, Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow and other officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Second Deputy Speaker Abshirow commended the committee that oversaw the election of the new Speaker and praised First Deputy Speaker Sadia Yasin for her leadership and management of parliamentary affairs while serving as acting Speaker.
Sadia Yasin also thanked the election committee for conducting the Speaker’s election and underscored the importance of continued cooperation and maintaining the momentum of the House’s work.
In his remarks, Speaker Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur thanked the First Deputy Speaker for leading the House during the transitional period and for overseeing its affairs.
He pledged to lead the House with fairness, transparency and unity, while prioritizing the strengthening of legislative work, safeguarding the constitutional role of Parliament and advancing the public interest.
The new Speaker also called on lawmakers to work collectively toward achieving the objectives of the House and fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.
