Somalia’s Human Rights Commission, OHCHR Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Chairperson of Somalia’s National Independent Human Rights Commission, H.E. Dr. Maryan Qasim, on Tuesday received Tom Haeck, Deputy Head of the OHCHR East Africa Multi-Country Office, at the Commission’s headquarters in Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the National Independent Human Rights Commission and the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR), particularly in technical assistance and institutional capacity-building.

The discussions also covered institutional development and operational priorities aimed at supporting the Commission in effectively and independently fulfilling its mandate.

The cooperation seeks to strengthen efforts to promote and protect human rights across Somalia in accordance with the Paris Principles.
