Somalia Elected to PUIC Executive Committee at Baku Conference

BAKU, (SONNA) – A delegation from the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, led by MP Dr. Mohamed Sheikh Ahmed, participated in the 20th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), which concluded in Baku, Azerbaijan. Somalia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abdinur Dahir Fidow, also attended the session.
The conference focused on promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth across member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) through enhanced parliamentary cooperation.
Addressing the session, MP Dr. Mohamed Sheikh Ahmed highlighted Somalia’s progress and underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation among Islamic countries while safeguarding the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of OIC member states. He also called on the organization to condemn any actions that undermine the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
On the sidelines of the conference, Somalia was elected to the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, reflecting the growing confidence in the country’s role and contribution within the organization.
Somalia’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to defending its sovereignty, strengthening relations with fellow OIC member states, and promoting cooperation and mutual understanding across the Islamic world.
