SoDMA Commissioner Inspects Shabelle River and Flood-Prone Areas in Beledweyne

Beledweyne, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, inspected the Shabelle River and vulnerable areas at risk of flooding during his working visit to Beledweyne, Hiiraan Region.

The inspection assessed the river’s water levels and the condition of areas that could be affected by flooding, with a focus on strengthening preparedness and preventing potential risks.

Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim urged local authorities and residents in Beledweyne to take measures to reinforce and seal vulnerable sections along the riverbanks to prevent flooding and reduce potential damage.

The visit comes amid forecasts of impacts from Super El Niño, which could significantly affect communities living along Somalia’s riverine areas.
